💬 My Message

Now, you can connect with friends or family through chat for a more efficient experience. Collaboratively edit posts on the shared board with your group members.

🤖 Filtering powered by AI

This filtering system extends your search capabilities through keywords and feeds. When users run out of ideas, these bubbles are designed to provide assistance and inspiration.

This button lets users explore additional suggestions for their saved board. FunClub always goes beyond your expectations, delivering more than you need.

Background

"The common desire to find activities aligning with personal interests is prevalent across the age group of 18-45.” However, the current process is often time-consuming and frustrating, leading to a loss of valuable time.

Research Goal

  • Explore ways to help people look for activities easily that match their interests and schedules.

  • Explain the importance of such an app in enhancing users' social lives, well-being, and local community engagement.

How can we encourage them to take a gentle step outside their comfort zones and explore their interests?

Defining problems

I identified three main user problems. Users struggle to find reliable information across multiple platforms, wasting time and causing frustration. My solutions streamline information gathering, enhance trust, and save time with efficient, user-friendly features.

Research

In the research phase, I focused on understanding potential users and their needs. Through diverse user behavior analysis, I gained insights into their preferences and frustrations that should proceed in the future.

User Interview

User Survey

User Persona

Insights:

  • Need to make sure they feel the full details when they are creating a new post, therefore others get the information they would like to see.

  • To give a message feature to help participants schedule their trip easier with friends/family, and also they can plan the flow in the chat function.

Insights:

  • Occasionally, they find it challenging to match schedules with others and it could be their pain point and cancel their trip

  • People tend to use social media platforms to discover activities because they want to spend the minimum amount of time to find what they want (mostly said less than 15 minutes)

Based on the survey and interviews, I created a persona Emma and outlined her behaviors briefly.

Test & Iteration

Insights:

priority issues

  • Users want some feature to people’s posts like sharing, commenting, dislike/report

  • Need a better way to create a board, add people in, and message with minimum steps (could be a shortcut)

non-priority issues

  • Alignment issues with icons, text, and other elements, make sure they are all aligned

  • Some icons might be misunderstood, e.g. pressed search icon looks like a racket to a user

  • Filtering options help users organize their needs in board

Design Enhancement

After receiving feedback, I refined my wireframes to enhance the user experience by focusing on details such as choosing better icons, improving element alignment and functionality, and evaluating feature usefulness. Throughout the design process, I continuously questioned whether each element served its purpose and helped users achieve their goals.

Takeaways

Creative Thinking and Probing Questions Enhance App Solutions

I realize I should have explored our app's potential more creatively, considering innovative finger movements and questioning our approach. By asking more probing questions during the testing with users, I believe I could have found better solutions and design approach.

Creating the FunClub app has the potential to transform how people step out of their comfort zones and try new activities with friends, solo, or with partners. The process of designing this app has shown me how an engaging and exciting design system can create a fun and motivating experience for users. Through this solo project, I learned the importance of user-centric design, iterative testing, and creative problem-solving. I discovered how critical it is to understand user needs and behaviors to build a product that truly enhances their social experiences and encourages them to explore new activities.
